WHEN Andrew and Susan Daly's dog Maggie died under the wheels of a passing car, they knew it was time to do something about the speeding traffic on the main road.
Knowing that many motorists do not keep to the 30mph speed limit on the Main Street in Philpstoun, the couple went door to door, collecting signatures for a petition to add speed bumps to the thoroughfare.

Andrew said: "With only four exceptions, all the residents in Philpstoun signed the petition. We have had a very good response."

The main road is adjacent to the children's play park and local children have to cross the busy road to catch the school bus.

It was only in the last few weeks that the Daly's dog was killed on the road.

Andrew said: "The children had the dog in the playpark and he ran onto the road. He was killed by a car and it was then that I thought, 'what if it had been the children?'"

A West Lothian Council spokesperson said: "All schemes of this type, including Main Street, Philpstoun, have been added to a list which is considered for future funding."

The petition was handed to Councillor Tom Kerr who has passed it on to Transport Engineers at the County Buildings.

They will make an assessment of the area and a decision will be made within the next few weeks.
