Work resurfacing Chapelgate Road at Dalmeny, one of the main access routes into Queensferry, has been delayed until after the summer
The surface on this road is widely reckoned to be among the worst in the area and calls have repeatedly been made by
local councillors and the town's community council for repairs to be carried out.
Work was due to begin on Tuesday, May 20. But Edinburgh City Council has now put the roadworks on hold until the autumn.
Queensferry councillor Norman Work this week said he was "disappointed" the work was not going ahead as planned.
He said: "This is one of the main access routes into Queensferry and anyone who has driven along this road will know how badly the surface is breaking up. I have campaigned since being elected last May for repairs to be carried out and thought at last the work would go ahead."
The city council has, however, decided to put the project on hold, partly because the repair work may take longer than was
originally scheduled. As well as resurfacing the road, the council is now going to upgrade the drainage system along the route too.
Repairs were expected to take just one week. But with a number of events due to be staged in Queensferry, starting with the Rotary Raft Race on June 1, a decision was made to delay the work until after the summer period.
Queensferry and District Community Council chairman Tom Martin said he was "aggrieved" that the work was not going ahead as scheduled. He said the community council had also called for action to be taken to upgrade the road last year.
Mr Martin said: "Chaplegate Road is just one of many roads in the area that are in need of urgent attention.
"The city council, supposedly, has a monitoring service which checks the condition of roads across the city but I wonder if they ever come out to Queensferry."
While one road project is delayed, work is about to begin on resurfacing the access road to Longcraig Pier from the Hawes from Monday. Repairs also began this week on the B800 just north of Kirkliston.
